Nikola (Nick) Samardzija
I spent most of my career in research and development, and currently am an independent researcher. My research interests are in nonlinear dynamics, nonlinear process control, data visualization, multivariate data analysis, statistics, applied mathematics, and technology. During my early research years on the subject of nonlinear dynamics I proposed the algebraic spectral theory for criteria to test the fundamental behavior of nonlinear systems. This result was subsequently used to investigate the dynamic and control properties in chemical and biological systems, and to develop analog computer architecture for a rapid simulation of such systems. I have worked on the theory of nonlinear dynamics for the past three decades with various interests in its applications. As my results deal with dynamics in 3-dimensions it was difficult to visualize them using the static 2-dimensional graphs. For that reason I had to develop techniques for animating 3-dimensional data. In 2011 these techniques helped me conceptualize a very general nonlinear dynamic form, namely the globotoroid geometry. With that I significantly expanded the areas of my interest. In addition to nonlinear system analysis in engineering and applied sciences, my interest now includes analysis of dynamical processes in cognitive, social, economic and political sciences.
